Swindon Champions finished for summer

Thank you to everybody that has attended Swindon Champions Multi – Sport session on a Thursday night over the last few months. We have had some great times with lots of laughs and smiles along the way. Well done to the participants that had a go at a number of different sporting activities from netball to martial arts. A highlight of Champions this term definitely has to be Clubacise delivered by Sam James. It was great to see everyone giving it their maximum effort and enjoying themselves and there was plenty of good dance moves on show as well! Details about Sam’s Clubacise sessions can be found on the Other Clubs section of the website.

Thank you also to our volunteers that help to make the session what it is, it is greatly appreciated!

New term starts again 8th September 2016. Hope to see everyone there!

Special Olympics Swindon, Tennis Foundation and Wilts LTA Host a Competition for People with Learning Disabilities

On Wednesday 1st June 2016, Special Olympics Swindon celebrated the great progress LD tennis has made in Swindon by hosting, in partnership with the Tennis Foundation and Wiltshire LTA, a fun and exciting competition day at the Delta Tennis Centre.

The day involved bringing both our senior (16+) and junior (11+) players together, allowing them to participate as one large group for the very first time. Tennis participants from the Swindon Downs Syndrome Group also attended. Coaches Alan Elbourn, Richard Overton and Peter Dodds set up brilliantly inclusive games for the participants to play, gathering points as they went through each of the different drills. One drill included hitting the balls into different target areas, achieving points for every target you hit.

Every participant played brilliantly on the day and it was evident how much hard work everyone had put in in training. The day ended with a presentation from Harry Ash (Special Olympics Swindon) and Richard Ayling (Tennis Foundation) where certificates were given to everyone who attended and medals/prizes were given to the winners and those that put in a huge effort on the day.

If you would like to join a Special Olympics Tennis Club, please see details of both our sessions below:
